Consuelo Herrera
Consuelo was born in Havana, Cuba begining her dance career at 14 with folklore and cabaret groups. She has been dancing with
Grupo Raicis Profundas(Deep Roots) for more than 10 years as a soloist lead dancer and singer touring Cuba, Central America
and Europe. Having appeared in several films and documentaries about dance in Cuba, she has also performed with the Havana
Opera in the Grand Teatro Habana and in Mexico. After touring Japan with Cuban National Cultural Spectacular, Consuelo was
brought to Canada by Jane Burnett and her "Spirits of Havana" project to the Planet Africa Party of 1996 Toronto Film Festival
and a tour of Canada and the U.S. Since then, she has been teaching at Ballet Creole's Professional Traning Program and has
been performing with Ballet Creole since August 2003.
Ana Machado
A professional dancer, choreographer and dance teacher from Havana, Cuba, she began dancing at the tender age of 6,
eventually joining the National Academy of Dance (Escuela Nacional de la Danza), a prestigious and world-renowned
8-year program. There she successfully studied and graduated in Modern Dance, Ballet, Afro-Cuban and other folk dances
as well as traditional and modern Latin social dances like Danzon, Rumba, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Son, and Salsa.
After graduation, she started her professional career with the prestigious Compania de la Danza Moderna and continued
as the lead dancer in famous Tropicana dance troupe, with which she travelled all around the world.
In 1990, Ana settled in Toronto, where she has been professionally dancing and teaching Salsa and Afro-Cuban dances since.
Duane Wrenn
New Orleans, LA native Duane Wrenn was born to dance. President of the successful
Energetic Soul Studios in Clawson , MI, Duane has a
B.S. degree in Exercise Science and is a highly accredited Fitness Consultant. Over the last six years Duane has put
his knowledge and experience to use developing several unique classes from dance to aerobic and strength. With over 500 special appearances both locally and abroad his experience and track record speaks for itself.
Duane is considered one of the top instructors of Afro-Cuban Salsa (Casino) style dancing in the Midwest . His background ranges from Cuban Rumba, Son, Capoeira, and Break dancing. Duane specializes in Casino style dancing with an Energetic Soul*sa Twist.
WORKSHOPS
Samba de Gafieirawith Albena de Assis
Samba de Gafieira, or simply Gafieira, is a ballroom dance expression of Brazilian Samba musical rhythm. Gafieira is therefore
a partner dance, usually of an elegant but funky nature. This workshop will teach you some of the basics moves and is designed for
all levels of students. Knowing some salsa is not a pre-requisite.
Reggaeton (for Men and Women)with Cesar Salazar and Yareneys Fernandez
The most outrageous cuban dance, Reggaeton will have you shaking and sweating in no time. Cesar and Yareneys will show you some of the steps
and body isolations most en vogue in Cuba. All levels welcome. Come ready to sweat!
Salsa Sueltawith Cesar Salazar
Learn loose (non-partnered) salsa steps and patterns for dancing either on your own or in a group. A popular way in Cuba of dancing salsa,
Salsa Suelta does not require a partner to make you enjoy the music. A Beginner 2 level salsa dancing is required for this
workshop.
Casino con Saborwith Duane Wrenn
This workshop will focus on adding styling to casino (Cuban salsa) partner work. You will how to spice up your partner
work with rumba, afro-cuban or other influences both for men and women. This workshop is for those who are intermediate to
advance cuban salsa dancers.
Ladies Stylingwith Ana Machado
Learn body movement and steps that will dramatically enhance your quality of dancing in salsa by adding the influences of
afro-cuban and cabaret (Tropicana) style dances.
Rueda de Casinowith Duane Wrenn
Learn new and exciting patterns for (Casino) Rueda. This workshop will challenge both intermediate and advanced
level dancers. It is a pre-requisite to be or have been in intermediate level Cuban salsa before joining this class.
Afro-Cubanwith Consuelo Herrera
Done to live music, this workshop will focus on orishas dances (Yoruba branch of Afro-Cuban), one of the main roots, together with rumba, of the body
movement and sometimes steps used in salsa. All levels welcome.
Rumbawith Consuelo Herrera
Done to live music, this workshop will focus on Yambú and Guaguancó for both men and women. All levels welcome.
